Vaelorn is a free browser RPG maze with permadeath that you can play right at vaelorn-official.com - no download, no install, just a mouse and a keyboard.
Vaelorn used to be an ordinary town on the edge of the Old March. But for years, something had been hiding beneath its streets - and one day it woke up and dragged the whole town underground, into a maze no one ever returned from. As a player, you take on the role of a hero descending floor by floor, fighting monsters, hunting for gear, and trying to piece together what really happened - until the maze gets you too.
Every floor is a procedurally generated maze with its own objective (defeat a set number of enemies, find relics, survive for a set time, defeat a boss, and more). Death is permanent - falling costs you your current run's progress, but not your account, character level, earned achievements, or permanent currency (Soul Shards), so you can always come back and try again, stronger than before.
Dungeon, ice cave, fire pits, swamp, forest and city - each with its own monsters, traps and visual style.
From Common all the way to the rarest Eternal tier, unlocked at high character levels.
Upgrade specific pieces of gear with Soul Shards and strengthen them further with scrolls carrying random bonuses.
A Soul Shop with permanent character upgrades, dozens of achievements, and a daily Wheel of Fortune.
Found or join a guild, chat with its members, add friends and message them.
A global leaderboard by score and by time played, with a podium for the top players and guilds.
Vaelorn runs directly in your browser on a computer - nothing to download or install. Creating an account is free, and the game also offers a short trial without registration so you can try the first levels before deciding.
Vaelorn is developed and maintained by a single person, going by the name Foro, in their spare time - there's no studio or team behind it. The entire game (the maze, combat, gear, guilds, leaderboards, server and database) is written from scratch in vanilla JavaScript, with no game engine.
The game has been continuously and regularly expanded since launch - new biomes, gear systems, story chapters, balance changes and bug fixes based on player feedback. A complete and honest changelog for every update is publicly visible both in-game under News and above on the main page, so you can verify for yourself that this is a living, actively maintained project.
If you enjoy the game and want to support its development, you can do so voluntarily via Ko-fi (link below) - playing itself is and will remain free.
To report a bug, suggest an improvement, or ask anything, use the Support form directly in-game, available from the main menu and during play (the question-mark icon in the top-right corner). If you prefer email, you can send a message via Ko-fi. The developer answers personally, usually within a few days.
